In an effort to expand its services and brand, JFK Medical Center has opened its first urgent care facility. Located at 1080 Stelton Road in Piscataway, the center will be open seven days a week at convenient times.
No appointment is necessary for treatment, and the expertise of the providers ranges across many different non life-threatening health issues. These issues may include lacerations, abrasions, mild fractures, earaches, sore throats, colds, flu and coughs.
While the most common diagnosis at these centers is an upper respiratory infection, and the most common procedure is wound repair, the numerous other services they offer could save local residents an expensive trip to the emergency room.
In fact, many times people go to an emergency room and spend countless dollars and hours when they could have gone to urgent care instead. A primary focus of the JFK center is to eliminate those costly trips.
The center offers EKG, lab tests and X-rays, as well as physicals. Doctors can also refer patients to specialty care at the JFK Medical Center if needed, which guarantees a continuation of care after the initial visit.
Urgent care facilities as a whole have been expanding across the nation due to increased popularity and effectiveness. Not only does it cost less, but care is also more efficient and the centers are continuously offering more services. Urgent care is also often open after regular doctor’s offices close, making it a convenient option.
Doctors say that patients should evaluate their situation before deciding on a care option. If the emergency involves a life-threatening illness or injury, you should still call 911 and proceed to an emergency room. While urgent care is a perfectly viable alternative to a doctor’s office, it is not always a substitution for an emergency room. When in doubt, call for help.
The JFK Urgent Care Center is open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
