When celebrities get new tattoos, they tend to show them off to the public pretty quickly. But Justin Bieber has been laying low with his new ink since mid-2018. However, the artist who did the tattoo has finally posted a picture revealing the tattoo — it says “grace” in thin, delicate linework right above Bieber’s right eyebrow.
While about 45 million people in the U.S. have at least one tattoo, face tattoos tend to attract more attention than others. The tattoo is a permanent reminder of God’s grace, which also inspired the artist behind the ink.
Johnathan “JonBoy” Valena posted the picture of Bieber’s tattoo on Instagram with the caption: “2018 was a lot of work for me. Both in tattooing and inner work I thought I would never have to face. So many times wanting to give up asking God to take me home. But then I’m reminded what my purpose in this world is through people like you who get tattooed by me and share your life of struggles, anxieties, lost loved ones, memories and victories through these little tattoos that have some of the biggest meaning behind them.”
This isn’t Bieber’s first tattoo that represents his religious beliefs, either. In 2016, he got his first face tattoo, which consisted of a small black cross right next to the corner of his eye. This tattoo was also done by Valena, as were a few of his other pieces. In total, Biever has more than 60 tattoos on his body.
Tattoo artist Keith “Bang Bang” McCurdy told Page Six TV back in November about Bieber’s new ink, saying that both Bieber and his wife got tattoos together. The pop star also shares his love of tattoos with his wife, Hailey Baldwin, who has several tattoos adorning her body herself.
The couple is still in the news quite frequently, whether it’s for their new tattoos or their sudden engagement and marriage. While there are about 2.4 million weddings that occur each year, Bieber and Baldwin decided to get married at the courthouse. The couple still plans on having a big ceremony with friends and family later on, but their marriage came as quite a shock to the public — especially since they were only together for a few weeks before tying the knot.
Both Bieber and Baldwin have an exciting year ahead of them. From new tattoos to a wedding ceremony, this is sure to be a big year for the newlyweds.
