During Prince William and wife Kate Middleton’s highly publicized whirlwind visit to the U.S. this week, the royal couple spent Monday night taking in all that New York City had to offer.
After a day filled with visits to the White House and the World Bank in Washington, D.C. for Prince William, and to a Harlem children’s center and the British consulate in New York for Kate, the couple attended Monday’s basketball matchup between the New York Nets and the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to CBS New York. At the game, Will and Kate met America’s own royal couple — Beyoncé and Jay-Z, who introduced themselves to the monarchs courtside during the game, CBS New York reports. Will and Kate also took pictures with basketball star LeBron James, who gave them a miniature-sized basketball jersey for their son, Prince George. James’s team, the Cavaliers, ultimately beat the Nets, 110-88. For a high-occupancy venue with a Place of Assembly Certificate like Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, which hosted Monday’s game, the royal couple’s visit also gave plenty of American fans and admirers the chance to get a seat in the house and catch a glimpse at the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cambridge. “(Kate is) such a good person to look up to, so it’s just an honor to be in the same building as her,” Rosalie Mumford of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn told CBS New York. On Tuesday, the couple’s tour of New York continued with a visit to the 9/11 Memorial at Ground Zero and to the top of the Empire State Building, which boasted red, white and blue lights to symbolize England’s Union Jack flag, according toBusiness Insider. As neither Prince William nor his wife had visited New York before, it’s clear from their busy schedules that they spent their short time in the city taking in all the sights, sounds and experiences that they could, while meeting a few fans and notable Americans along the way. |
