Real estate is a seller’s market around the country, and that’s no different in New York City where the rich and famous have listed their high-priced lofts.
Singer John Legend has put up the loft he shares with wife and model Chrissy Teigen for $4.49 million. The 1,969 square-foot space comes with one bedroom and two bathrooms.
The apartment, which was featured in Architectural Digest last year, also includes an open concept layout between the living room and kitchen.
Legend and Teigen originally bought the loft back in 2012 for just $2.55 million, and since then, they have put a lot of work into renovating the space.
Although they kept the layout, white oak floorboards and home automation system that were there when they moved in, they renovated the kitchen and redid the bathrooms and storage areas.
The rich and famous often look to professional interior designers when they need tips for furnishing a home. Like others in their income bracket, Legend and Teigen own a lot of fine-quality furniture, which contains better sanding and finishing, no obvious hardware or welding, and nothing that can rust or break down easily over time.
But that’s not all that celebrity lofts in New York usually include.
Exposed brick and high ceilings are especially popular in most upscale lofts in the city.
These are especially prominent in the loft purchased by Winston Marshall, banjo player for Mumford and Sons. His 2,000 square-foot, three-bedroom apartment has high ceilings with visible pipes painted white to match and gleaming hardwood floors, too.
Some lofts aren’t exactly modern, though, despite the high price tag.
For those who want a multi-million dollar fixer-upper, there’s one available in the famous Dakota building for just $19.5 million.
The home is, as Curbed.com puts it, “bizarre.” One room is decorated in burnt orange — including the carpeting; another is painted in dark gray tones.
The loft has 10 rooms total with six fireplaces and whatever a “shaving closet” is.
Measuring a total of 4,500 square feet, the loft has been on the market for the better part of eight years with very little change in price.
